What Makes Him a Base Breaking Character?[]
What Do People Like About Him?[]
- Fans find him to be a good representation of a villain protagonist and one of the biggest trope codifiers of a vengeful vigilante.
- Readers find him to be a interesting and entertaining character, thanks to his tragic background, and charmingly sadistic personality.
- Although The Boys is a highly criticized comic series, Butcher is still mostly seen as one of its few positives, and he’s one of the few characters that weren’t ruined by the latter half of the story.
- He is also seen as a badass thanks to his shrewd intelligence, incredible combat skill and bravery, This has inspired fans to create numerous edits about him all across social media.
- Fans considered his death scene to be well written and fitting for the character of Butcher as he finally let go of his hatred.
What Do People Hate About Him?[]
- Some fans found him a tad to violent for a lead character like him, especially in the way he uses his dog Terror to rape animals and sometimes people, and his decision to kill all of his allies at the end of the story felt abrupt and inconsistent, as he had previously seemed to care about them. These actions made many fans find him too repulsive to sympathize with, despite Ennis's many efforts to portray him as a tragic character.
- Some people dislike how he feels like an escapist character for the writer, Garth Ennis, to vent his hatred on the superhero genre.
