Mephiles finds the infobox on this page admirable, as it's pretty much dead, as evidenced by how many, if not all sections, in it are as empty as his heart and the land he rules. Next thing you know, he might rule over it. Prevent this from happening by updating and expanding the infobox. ![]() |
Armin Arlert is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Mikasa Ackerman) of the Attack on Titan franchise. He is a refugee from Shiganshina and Eren Yeager and Mikasa Ackerman's best friend from childhood.
In Japanese, he is voiced by Marina Inoue. In English, he is voiced by Jessie James Grelle who voices Fumikage Tokoyami in My Hero Academia.
What Makes Him a Base Breaking Character?[]
What Do People Like About Him?[]
- Armin goes through good development and maturity as the anime progresses. He starts out as an insecure and fearful soldier, but evolves into a respected and courageous commander. This growth inspires many fans, who see him as an example of personal overcoming and resilience. His transformation into someone capable of making difficult decisions and leading the Survey Corps is an aspect admired by those who follow his journey.
- At various times, Armin acts as the voice of reason among his friends, especially when Eren becomes more impulsive and aggressive. He balances Eren's impulsiveness and Mikasa's extreme protectiveness, offering a more considered and diplomatic perspective. His ability to keep the group together and make rational decisions is valued by his detractors and inspires other fans
What Do People Hate About Him?[]
- From the beginning of the series, Armin is portrayed as physically weak compared to other characters such as Eren Yeager and Mikasa, Levi Ackerman Between others. This makes some fans consider him less useful in direct combat, especially in an anime where physical battles are so important to the show. His lack of combative skills makes his detractors hate him because he is weak and barely kills Titans.
- Detractors also accuse him of being a Creator's Pet and mocked author Hajime Isayama by accusing him of constantly trying to make them love Armin no matter what.
- In the beginning, he often shows hesitation at some critical moments, which can be frustrating for his detractors. In several situations, he takes time to act or doubts himself before making important decisions (Just like Jean). This indecision contrasts with the immediate action of other characters, leading his detractors to see him as someone who is not up to the demands of the brutal world in which he lives.
- Many fans of Bertholdt Hoover hate him for killing the character. Although Armin was mindless when he killed Bertholdt and it wasn't his choice to do so, the detractors hate how Armin miraculously survived a fall of about 50 meters, landing on a hard roof while being completely burned to a crisp and blackened, yet still breathing for an hour throughout a whole dispute, just so he could get saved and given the serum. They also still blame Armin for Bertholdt's death as he was defeated thanks to a strategy conjured by Armin.
- In addition, the same detractors hate Armin for taking everything from Bertholdt: his life, his iconic Titan, his memories, and his love interest.
- Detractors also hate him for being chosen by Levi over Erwin Smith, thus blaming him for Erwin's death and agreeing with Floch's angry rant against the decision. They also deem Armin an unworthy inheritor of the Colossal Titan, due to him being a pacifist preferring to seek peace with Marley and other nations and try to understand them.
- Some detractors resent how out of the characters who did atrocities of mass murder, Armin is the one who got called out the least within the story, having massacred numerous civilians, including children. Detractors and resent how others who did similar crimes as Armin suffered more punishment than him, while he's one of the characters who got rewarded the most by the end of the story.
- Many detractors hate him for falling in love with his former enemy Annie, who killed many Scouts. Others who shipped Annie with other characters (most notably Bertholdt) hate him for his mutual romantic relationship with Annie.
- Some detractors hate him for sympathizing with the Warriors and the characters from Marley in general.
- Fans of Floch hate him, as he is the complete opposite of him, despite ironically having directly killed more people than Floch.
- Many detractors who supported the Yeagerists and/or the Rumbling also hate Armin for betraying Eldia and helping save the world. They also hate that he became a peace ambassador for Marley in the Global Alliance.
- Some detractors also resent the fact he became the last Commander of the Survey Corps.
- At the end of the anime, Armin continues to support Eren and love him to a certain extent, even with the genocidal actions Eren did with the Rumbling.
- In the manga, there is a scene where Armin says "you became...a mass murderer for our sake.." which makes it seem like he is thanking Eren for killing 80% of humanity rather than the intended interpretation of chewing out Eren for using his associates' name and reputation to commit massacres, which generated outrage among his detractors. Author Hajime Isayama had to explain he didn't mean to make it look like Armin approved of the mass genocide, but by then the damage was already done.
- Although this line was toned down in the anime, and Armin was shown to be more horrified and upset about the Rumbling, even crying about it, there is still criticism about how Armin handled the atrocities committed by his friend.
- Detractors also criticized the fact that Armin punched Eren and screamed at him for hurting Mikasa's feelings, rather than for the more serious and pressing matter of him committing mass genocide and ecocide with the Rumbling, making Armin's priorities odd and unrealistic in their eyes.
