Marquis Andrealphus of the Ars Goetia is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Stella) of Season 2 in the adult animated web series Helluva Boss.
He is a highly intelligent and strategic marquis of the Ars Goetia and the brother of Princess Stella, who assists her in her divorce with Stolas; his brother in-law. Clearly the more level-headed and collected of the two siblings, Andrealphus actively manipulates the events around him so that Stella will gain as much as possible from the divorce.
What Makes Him a Base Breaking Character?[]
What Do People Like About Him?[]
- Fans adore Jason LaShea’s performance, as it’s sly, slimy, and helps sell his role as a cunning manipulator.
- His hamminess and unique sense of humor has gotten him many fans, particularly after "Mastermind" which really gave him his first chance to shine.
- While “Western Energy” helped plant the seeds for establishing him as a social climber who manipulates the events unfolding around him for his own personal gain with him convincing Stella to call Striker off out of sheer pragmatism, "Mastermind” would go on to fully show him in action at this with him successfully gaining Stolas' power and taking over his position through strategy and manipulation. And his fans absolutely loved it.
- The battle between him and I.M.P. in “Sinsmas” is nothing short of awesome to fans. With it being considered by many fans to be one of the peak moment of the series as a whole due to the high stakes (with the team never having gone up against a royal demon before), and the amount of badass and creative uses of his magic that are depicted, such as him imprisoning Stolas inside of a hydra made of snow and ice.
- His ice powers give him a unique aesthetic.
- His fans will refute the claims that he and Stella could've easily been one character by pointing out that given how he seems to be the one pulling all the strings around her and manipulating her circumstances to his advantage, he was likely responsible for playing a part in Stella's descent down a dark path through his influence in her life was one of the closest people to her as far back as when she was a child who was therefore a major negative influence on her through his selfishness and elitism. Which would by extension add more depth to them both in the process.
What Do People Hate About Him?[]
- His plan in "Mastermind" doesn't make much sense since it entirely relied on Stolas having been watching the television at the time Blitzo was about to be executed so he could arrive in time and take the fall for Blitzo's supposed crimes so Andrealphus could then convince Satan to strip him of his powers and status as punishment. Had it not been thanks to sheer luck, Blitzo would've been beheaded and Stolas would've kept his power, completely ruining the purpose of Andrealphus' plan.
- Detractors view his character as ultimately pointless as he could've easily been merged into Stella as one whole character, instead stripping Stella of yet more screentime and development. Even to the point of stealing what should've been Stella's time to shine during the trial against I.M.P. by not even having her be present with Andrealphus instead being the one to carry the case despite his own relationship with Stolas being much less personal and developed.
- Some also think he's basically the same character as Stella, making him even more pointless in most viewpoint.
- His constant remarks about how hot Stella is, who bear in mind is his sister, has rubbed many fans the wrong way due to the incestuous undertone that these comments carry. While the confirmation that he is gay has led to fans to speculate these stemming from him being closeted and/or in denial of his sexuality, it hasn't gotten rid of the bad taste left in the fandom's mouth.
- Him getting beaten to a bloody pulp so easily by a depowered Stolas (who earlier in the exact same episode wasn’t even capable of pushing a desk in the midst of his tantrum) and later chased away by his own teenage niece Octavia in “Sinsmas” ruined how the episode was supposed to set him up as a formidable opponent through his aforementioned battle with I.M.P.
