Akane Owari is one of the main characters in the 2012 Japanese visual novel game Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, being titled the Ultimate Gymnast.

What Makes Her a Base Breaking Character?[]

What Do People Like About Her?[]

  • Several fans found her design to be attractive, just like she is described to be in-universe
  • At times, fans found her to be funny such as when she famously called Fuyuhiko “Baby gangsta” which became a meme (despite being anonymous).
  • A major reason why fans enjoy her is due to how much they sympathise with her backstory:
    • She grew up to be extremely poor and had little food to eat and she literally had to look for it herself and lived in a house that was so bad that she rested in libraries. Also, she had a lack of access to medical care.
    • Worst of all, she received physical and sexual abuse despite her age. Also, she has been SA’d by her stepmother’s lovers which she thought were just massages.
  • Fans enjoyed her strong friendship with Nekomaru Nidai and in fact, some people ship them together.

What Do People Hate About Her?[]

  • She received criticism due to being too similar to Aoi Asahina from the previous game, with them both being ditzy athletes with a love for food.
  • Another reason why she is divisive is due to her receiving a lot of fanservice which many shonen demographic media is infamous for.
  • Some fans found her surviving the Killing School Trip to be pointless, since her survival hardly added anything to the plot and she didn’t undergo a major character arc that shouldn’t be wasted. Therefore, she can be considered a “The load” type of character.
