Call me Dickmaster.
~ Adam infamously boasting about himself.

Adam is the main antagonist of Season 1 of the adult animated comedy musical series Hazbin Hotel.

He is the first man ever created who, after dying, ascended to become an angel. He then conjured up the idea of a yearly genocide of going down to Hell and killing sinners dubbed "Exterminations" by leading a group of angels known as "Exorcists". He is the ex-husband of Lilith Morningstar, the first woman ever created and the Queen of Hell, and arch-enemy of both Lucifer Morningstar and Charlie Morningstar.

He is voiced by Alex Brightman.

What Makes Him a Base Breaking Character?[]

What Do People Like About Him?[]

  • Some fans find him very entertaining, hilarious, and just love how enjoyably evil and sadistic he is. His jerkassery is also very over-the-top, akin to a dudebro college frat boy, making him a lot more of a "Love to Hate" type of character than an outright Hate Sink.
  • Alex Brightman gives him a very energetic and lively performance, and delivers Adam's character's perfectly.
  • His villain song "Hell is Forever" is considered a classic amongst fans due to it's hard rocking energy and Alex Brightman's raspy voice fitting it.
  • He still manages to be a serious and very dangerous threat despite his comedic nature, especially in the finale where he's able to beat the already powerful Alastor.
  • His genuine friendship with his second-in-command Lute is considered to be very wholesome by many fans, and if nothing else just fun to watch due to the duo's chemistry.
  • His admittedly problematic race lift is somewhat mitigates by the fact that he's voiced by Jewish voice actor Alex Brightman.

What Do People Hate About Him?[]

  • Detractors consider him to be very obnoxious due to a lot of his comedic dialogue consisting of sex jokes and constant swearing (much more than others), which they think it gets old very fast.
  • Some think his voice is quite grating, partly due to his loudness and his "dudebro" way of talking can be annoying. While this is intentional, some viewers think the show went too far.
  • Some fans consider him too boring and one-dimensional compared to the show's other villains such as Sera, who is more of a well-intentioned extremist; Alastor, who is very unpredictable, enigmatic and above all terrifying; The Vees (Velvette, Valentino, and Vox), who all target the main characters in far more personal ways; or even his second-in-command Lute, whose bloodthirstiness, menacing presence and sheer hatred for the main cast makes her come across a far more interesting threat than Adam.
  • Adam’s role as a leader of the Exorcists and his sheer strength might risk making him feel more like an obstacle than a fleshed-out character, depending on how he's utilized in the story.
    • Especially when he had many chances to kill the protagonists, which made his death even worse.
  • Some viewers consider him a waste of potential and that the corruption and hypocrisy of Heaven could have been far better represented by a more dignified or less one-dimensional figure than an over-the-top, laughably evil jerk like Adam.
  • Some viewers consider him to be nothing but a strawman who barely brings up any genuinely compelling arguments as to why sinners should be killed beyond "they had their chance in life" and that most of his justification is just sadism, which some viewers do not consider an interesting motivation.
  • Several fans think his comedic moments detract too much from his overall threat and therefore cannot take him seriously despite his horrible actions being treated very seriously in-universe, being the cause of the yearly genocides in the first place.
  • While played for laughs, he dies in a manner some viewers call anti-climactic, at the hands of Niffty, who simply stabs in the back despite not knowing him personally. Detractors feel a more personal rival of Adam like Lucifer, Vaggie, or Charlie should have killed him instead of someone he never interacted with.
  • Some viewers find him much too different from the original Adam, as barring some parts of his backstory, he's very in-name only.
    • Some also believe making Adam into an angel and not any of the other actual higher ranked angels (such as Michael, who was the actual archangel commander in Judaism and Christianity) is a huge missed opportunity.
  • It is never explained why he acts the way he is and the show doesn't delve into his backstory besides the opening scene, which paint him as a jerk from the start. Many fans think this makes him come across as very underdeveloped.
  • The decision to make him a full white man has garnered criticism due to the implication that white people were the first humans and that, historically, he and Eve would have been near or in the Middle-East, which was where the Story Of Genesis and The Bible were written.
