Im back people, here’s a fun one.
Who is he?
Eddie Brock, later known as Venom, Is the main antagonist of Spider-Man 3, he’s an extremely, petty and sadistic manchild who goes on a large rampage across the city out of revenge against Spider-Man for “ruining his life.”
What do People Like about him?
Some fans view him as a interesting and unique take on the character of Eddie Brock with many people stating that he served as a better foil to Spider-Man then the comic version, since the comic version is mostly just this serious anti-heroic brute, so he didn’t serve as a very good foil for Spider-Man, Sam Rami’s Eddie Brock however, portrayed him as Spider-Man’s polar opposite and what Spider-Man desperately avoids trying to be, this is what people wanted from the character of Venom, a perfect mirror and distinction from the character of Peter Parker.
Multiple memes have been made about him, especially when he said the line, “I like being bad it makes me happy.”
Eddie genuinely became a creepy and threatening antagonist after he became Venom, even managing to kill a major character, Harry Osborn, and became less of a joke by the end, (But he’s still kinda of a joke).
Some fans did enjoy Topher Grace’s performance as Eddie Brock, he did his best to portray him as a pathetic, incel asshole.
His powers are pretty cool looking, again serving as a perfect mirror to Peter, since they both have very similar abilities, they just use them for very diffrent reasons.
What Do People Dislike About Him?
People feel that his design fell flat, because his design doesn’t really look like venom, also noting on the fact that Topher Grace wasn’t the best fit for the role, because of his small and skinny frame, that barely looked like the comic version which portray him as a hulking beast of a man in his human and symbiotie form.
A lot of fans criticize the fact that Sam Raimi forgot to have this version of Venom refer to himself as "we" instead of "I."In the comics, this is a crucial detail, as the symbiote and its host speak as one entity, famously saying, "We are Venom." However, in Spider-Man 3, Venom exclusively refers to himself as "I," which many fans disliked.
Many people disliked how they turned Eddie into a whinny, despicable, and irredeemable manchild, instead of making him cool, sympathetic, and badass like his comic version, his pettiness, corny lines, and design really made it hard for people to take him seriously at all, here’s another video explaining why that’s the case. The first two top comments in the Quora thread explain what I’m trynna say.
Fans dislike the fact that despite being the main antagonist of the film, he barely does anything until the third act, so it felt like he was shoehorned into the movie to cater towards the audience that desperately wanted to see a live action Venom.
Why did I make this?
I made this because I wanted to clear up something, first and foremost, Raimiverse Venom, is not a Scrappy!, he has recently garnered a strong following as of late, maybe if we’re talking about the reception he had on the 2000s or in the early 2010s then maybe he would be a scrappy, but we’re in the present now, and with all the links and opinions from various diffrent portions of the fandom I gave you guys, you guys can now see that Venom is both heavily despised, and heavily praised, he isn’t just heavily criticized so he can’t be a scrappy, sorry to break it to you. On a side note tho this proposal has been lots of fun, just like this goofy ass character lol.
Verdict
He counts imo.
